WIWs with some style direction reflection ;)

Hello friends! I hope you've all be doing well because i know for sure you've all been looking well. :*

Here are a few of my outfits recently:

Pics 1-3: A weekend look. I said no more summer purchases but i had been wanting to add a denim dress to my summer wardrobe for awhile so when i saw this at Goodwill for $2...with studded buttons no less, i grabbed it. A little on the short side so i paired it with my slouchy, mostly flat, fringe boots.

Pic 4: Worn to work. I"ve had this skirt for forever and i normally pair it with some red accents so i decided to go for some blues this time around. :)

Pics 5-7: Worn to work yesterday!
And here is where the style direction reflection comes in. I really love this outfit. Putting it together and wearing it felt "right". So i think this fall i want to push my style into a romantic grown up goth look. Nothing extreme. Just deep colors, velvet, lace, maybe corset detailing here and there etc.

Then after thinking about it...i already have a lot of these pieces in my closet. So maybe it's not that much of a push? Maybe just a continuation? Not sure. I like to experiment so much that sometimes it's hard for me to see one direction or focus. I thought i wanted to try going a bit more boho but now i believe i only like to flirt with it. Too much didn't feel like me (I played dress up in my closet).

Asos recently came out with their trend guide and besides the goth and berry hues i'm also really looking forward to the sci fi/fantasty trend! Most likely unknown around here but i'm a pretty big sci-fi nerd. :D I went to a Star Trek convention at age 9 guys. I"m not messing around.

So thanks for reading if you did. Feel free to say what you like, good or bad. And if you want to see more pictures or find out where my clothes are from you can always check out my blog: http://nickichicki.com

*looks up* Uh, sorry for writing a book. @_@

As always, I love your adventurousness and playful style! I can definitely see you exploring the sort of soft goth side of your style for fall/winter.

I looked at that trend report the other day too and enjoyed it. I really like some of those trends -- the oriental patterns, geometrics and florals, etc.

I don't know how it's possible, but you just keep getting more and more ADORABLE!!!!!!

These are all great, and I especially love the last look. Can't wait to see more of your grown-up romantic Goth sci-fi looks!

Yes, I definitely think you own pieces that would allow you to explore the romantic goth concept!

If outfit #3 is any indication, I'm REALLY excited to see where you go with this exploration. That is my favorite outfit on you from this series. I love your sense of playfulness when you are composing an outfit, Nicole.
I have a brooch from h&m that's nearly identical to the cameo in the third outfit. Never thought of using it as a pendant but I'm quite inspired to give it a try!

    What Ali said :)

Although my favourite outfit is #4!

Here's to scifi nerds! I went to Japan to meet the makers of Robotech when I was 13... no, not kidding either.

You look great in your beginning-goth looks! And you have the face to pull off more gothic hair/makeup... but that might be a bit far.

Holy cats! Thanks for sharing that ASOS trend guide - almost every trend gets me *right there.* So very exciting!

You may experiment a lot, but your style seems fairly cohesive to me. Seems natural to be more into some aspects than others as times change and you evolve. The goth "lite" look seems perfect for you. Edgy, romantic, but still fun.

I think your style direction makes perfect sense for you and will be fab, though I also love your lighter, brighter looks too (like #4).

I say this everyt ime, but I love your style. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

I think they're all great. Jealous of your fringe boots, too bad they're not in my size.

I'm with Angie - LOVE LOVE LOVE #4! And those sandals are amazing! Looking forward to seeing where your style goes Nicole! Keep experimenting and having fun!

Great thrifting. Love your "reflection" outfit. I think romantic goth will work so well on you I can't wait to see the pics

Thanks everyone! Really loving all the support for "Goth Lite" (love that Rae)

Anna - I found mine at an actual Steve Madden store so if you really want some check there. They were on clearance and then Steve Madden was having an "take an additional 50% off clearance" sale. Just make sure you like them because the sale associate neglected to tell me until after she swiped my card that all clearance is final sale. Which is fine because i love them but still, kinda shady.

Alecia - Thanks so much for your sweet comment! :)

rae - isn't it exciting?! I can't wait! Thanks for saying my style seem cohesive even with experimentation. Really means a lot!

ironkurtin - wow! That beats a Star Trek convention hands down! My husband and I talk about going to Comic Con every year but so far it hasn't worked out. July is always such a busy month. :-/ And i can do a dark lipstick but most likely not a black lipstick. ;)

Angie - i knew you would like that one the best! ;)

Kari - Thank you! It's my favorite too!

As always you look amazing and fresh. I LOVE #4, but am envious your youth can pull off the other looks. Very nice.

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Nicole, I love the cheekiness you bring to your outfits --- I bet you'll make a great 'lite goth girl' with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.

You are obviously having fun, and that is contagious! Love your poses too. I am a huge Sci-Fi lover and big time nerd, so maybe there will be some nerd-spiration for me in some of those characters' outfits. Gotta go play dress up and find out! Thanks for the ideas.
