WIW - leather, burgundy and lace!

Worn to work! Whenever i wore this...this past Monday or Wednesday i think - it felt like a fall day! Pretty exciting after months and months of 90s. I'm sure summer isn't done with us yet but it was fun to be able to break out some fall clothes earlier than expected!

Also, i have a question. Why does one color have so many names? Burgundy, Maroon, Wine, Cranberry. And then there's Claret and Oxblood but i *think* claret is lighter than burgundy and oxblood is darker. Or am i wrong? It makes internet searching for this specific color a little difficult. And then there are some retailers just labeling it as "red". Not helpful.

Well whatever you want to call it, this is one of my favorite shades to wear and i know i'm going to be filling my closet up with it all fall and winter long. I said on my blog that at the end of winter i should do a joke post in which i wear all of the items i've accumulated in this color in one outfit. But i already have two pairs of burgundy shoes so that might be rather difficult. :D

Thanks for reading/looking!

Gorgeous, Nicole! Love the juxtaposition of textures and the rich colour on you.

It's one of my favourites, too, whatever you call it!

As to the differences, I don't know if manufacturers actually distinguish all that carefully. In my own (possibly deluded) mind, "cranberry" is a blue-red with some brightness to it, while "oxblood" might be a bit duller, browner, or more rusty in appearance. Burgundy would still be a blue-red, but darker than cranberry, more shaded, whereas claret might be between the two? Maroon....I've never been completely sure about maroon. And wine, well, that's just generic dark red, lol!

Haha THANK YOU SUZ for the clarification - I'll go with it! :D

I believe that dark red is your favourite colour. You wear it so well :). I like the playful plait in your hair too.

    Beautiful outfit.
I would say that is a dark red and not a burgundy. But i understand you becuase some shades for me are orange while other people call it red :O)

Gorgeous. I think all of the shades listed are on the continuum between true red and blue. Whatever it is called, it looks fabulous on you.

Whatever you call it, this is your hue! I love the lace jacket and the pumps are so ladylike and modern! I love this color too, and will need to restrain myself while stocking up on it, I can already tell.

Oh, you do whatever-you-want-to-call-it-red very well! Your shoes are like little walking works of art and I love that red textured jacket with your leather skirt.

Amazing!! One of my favorites. Looking forward to seeing more burgundy on you.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Very chic, yet playful! (that sounds like I could be describing a wine!)

Love how we get a cool day and you whip out the leather skirt ;-) Great to contrast the black leather with the lace jacket and the suede of those adorable shoes.

Your burgundy (or whatever) pieces are perfect color on you - no wonder you're accumulating a few.

I'd say it's a cranberry???? Love the whole outfit. You look great.

This is perfect proportioned while being on trend in every way. The lace, the moto jacket cut, the leather, the pumps with an unusual heel, the layered tanks. Once again I am in awe of your skills! You look stunning Nicole.

I would call your reds a dark red or wine red, and it looks magnificent on you! The shoes are stunning.

Thanks everybody for your comments! I'm happy everyone liked this outfit as much as i did!

Shannon - haha! I shall be very sad if they suddenly go missing! :)

Ceit - yes! I'll admit i had to do a bit of wiggling in the beginning but by midday i believe it stretched out nicely. :)

Anna - Thanks! That means a lot coming from you <3

Jayne - The lace jacket is from Forever 21 but i bought it last year in the fall.

    Denise - seriously, you're too sweet! :)

MNSara - Haha i know right?! It's been sitting in my closet since the beginning of July; i couldn't wait to be able to break it out!

Angie - thanks! I've been trying to figure out different things to do with my hair now that it's longer. :)

Great outfit! Love the textures and colors on you. That is a great fall color, whatever you call it. I think clothes makers do that just to sound more sophisticated. Dark red or burgundy ... which sounds better? Hmmmmm.
