WIW - 1/6 Matchy Mismatchy

I feel like I should be on that, "Confessions of a Shopaholic" movie with this outfit. Did you see it? A good majority of Rebecca's (main character) outfits had a lot going on but they were all really color coordinated. I guess that's me today! I'm about to go see Les Miserables in like...........20 minutes. Yay! You guys can take bets if i'm going to cry or not.

Black faux fur bomber jacket: UNIF
Purple/black striped scarf: Vera Wang for Kohls
Grey/black houndstooth sweater: Hot Kiss
Purple leopard print jeans: Vigoss
Black flatform boots: C Label
Purple studded handbag: Marshalls (i do not see a label on this bag....anywhere. o.O)

Thanks for looking! Feel free to speak your mind!

This is just adorable. It is a lot going on and it all fits together perfectly.
There is just enough, and not too much, for a wonderful outfit.
How can I translate this mix for my 55 year old self, I wonder?

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Nicole, that's such a fun outfit! I love those purple jeans on you. I like how you look warm, comfortable, AND stylish at the same time. Your lip color is all kinds of beautiful next to your flawless skin.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Ditto what Moira said. Everything looks just right for you and your style. The purple studded bag is a find!

Sometimes I see you and boy, do I wish I was a bit younger on in a creative field. Love your outfit!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Love it from head to toe. Yes, a lot going on, but the color ties it all in beautifully.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

What Mo said - the colours make it all work. You look fantastic, hope you have/had a good time.

    Yes, maximal but maximally awesome.

I dreamed a dream in time gone by.......of purple bags and patent booties........

You fully embody the YLF mantra to have fun with fashion, and this clearly works for you. I'm particularly fond of the booties, which could easily work in my climate and closet.

P.S.. Hope you stuffed a whole box of kleenex in there.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I love this! You look adorable, fun, and so stylish!

Thank you so much for all your nice comments ladies! I thought the movie was fantastic! I had no idea that Helena Bonham Carter was going to be in it (i love her) so that was as delightful treat. Plus she was amazing with Sasha Baron Cohen.

I didn't end up crying but i think i was the only one in the theater who did not. @_@

Suz - haha thanks for remembering me. You're always so sweet. :*

Beth Ann - I'm all about fun. ;)

Kari - Thanks! It's Mac's "Rebel" and it's one of my favorites.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You are amazing! Matchy Mismatchy indeed!

What a great outfit, Nicole! Love the bag!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

This outfit is a lot of fun and the purple and black are pure Rock & Roll! Love the platform lace up boots.

On another note, I saw your comment in Mo's jeans & tipping thread -- do you ever think you would go back to being a server or do you love your current job more? I had a really disheartening night at work ... wondering how serving compares to other jobs. I mean I know how it compares to my former job in marketing, but I'm curious what your perspective is.

  • nicoleb replied 11 years ago

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad night at work! I know from personal experience that not feeling happy about your job can really affect your attitude and life. :(

I think serving has its pros and cons like any job. I am a very social high energy person and I loved the challenge of keeping mass amounts of people happy in a fast paced environment because I was really good at it. ;) having cash in hand every single day you work is nice too.

I personally would not go back to it as a full time job in place of my current job because it provides me with a lot of things I currently need in my life (non-fluctuating income, M-F 9-5, some benefits) and right now I'm really happy with where I am.

But I will say I do miss the social aspect of serving. My office tends to be very quiet and everyone here is much older than me. My husband is a chef and always has tons of fun stories and is always making new friends. But with as uncertain as the restaurant industry is I don't believe having two members of a household working in it would be the best for our family. It's the same reason why I haven't gone for several much more social jobs that have you working on commission. But I'm grateful and happy to have the job that I have because I know when I was hired I wasn't the most qualified and I have definitely learned a lot about financial planning which I'm sure will help me in the long run!

Sorry if that was crazy long (I'm typing on my phone.). Not sure if it was helpful or not, lol? I hope you find the solution that works best for you!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Nicole/Nicki -- first I am impressed you can type that well on your phone.

Thank you for sharing your experience. (And I apologize for leading your thread OT.)

It's really interesting to hear your perspective. Most of all, I agree it would be difficult for two people to work in the industry -- what with the uneven hours/wages and lack of benefits.

Yeah I had a bad night, only one 4 top last night for dinner!
