Maroon faux fur + getting over mixing brown & black

I have a mental hang up when it comes to mixing brown and black. I know it can be done and i even like the look of the colors together yet when i put together an outfit that has black in it i always pass over brown pieces in favor of more black unless the item already mixes brown and black for me. It's also kept me from adding more brown to my wardrobe. But no more! I like brown, i look good in brown, i'm hereby pledge to start mixing with abandon!

Brown shearling coat - H&M
Maroon faux fur scarf - Asos
Taupe shirt - Target
Brown fingerless gloves - Nickichicki ;)
Black pants - Urban Outfitters
Black combat boots - F21

I've been wearing these boots a lot because they have a good solid tread on them and wouldn't you know it i totally biffed it on some ice in the school parking lot today. So much for that. -_-

I had the same issue today. You look straight out of a catalog, Nicole. Really. Fantastic outfit!

You WEAR that brown Nicole!!! This looks gorgeous - I love the mix of black, brown and taupe. I love the top peeking out from under the jacket and that scarf is fantastic! Now you've got me thinking about brown and black....hmmmm....

YES! Brown and black FTW! And the red fur? A great touch. I think the rugged brown really softens the red/black combo, which can sometimes look a little goth/death metal.

You do brown, at least this shade of brown, brilliantly--it goes so well with your hair and overall coloring. The red is a delightful splash of energy and texture (to contrast nicely with the off-white trim on your jacket), and black somehow does work with this too. It's a nice, tomboy, adorable look accented by the brilliant whiteness of the snow. I love it!

Wow, what a fabulous outfit. I think you look a little bit like Emma Stone in the first pic : )

Oooh, your new coat! I love it! It was a good choice over the black one! I do love it with black, too.

    You always look so cool!

I also balk at wearing black and brown together, but I'm getting better. I always have to think the outfit through a bit more than when I do the more expected black with gray. I love the way you've done it here.

So cool! That jacket fits your style and coloring perfectly! Love the outfit, envious of the super pics!

Mix away!! You make it all work!

Nicole, your posts always, always cheer me up. Your outfits are so cool, creative and fun and so cleverly put together.

Fab combo on you and please keep them coming.

This is lucious! I love that jacket on you. And yes, you look like a model in a catalogue! This brown and black mixing looks good when you have a nice rich brown (not a super dark espresso that looks a bit like it *might* be faded black). The red and black scarf is very daring and it works to echo the black boots. Nice!

You look great. The brown jacket looks good with the black pants. Love your blue fingernails showing out of your fingerless gloves.

You do look good in brown. Glad you got that shearling. You are a fashion shoot.

I know, I have a thing with pairing black and brown also. This is a lighter, much richer shade of brown, however. I think the black works perfectly with the off white shearling accents on the jacket and the grey top. That red scarf brings the outfit to another level.

I love the entire outfit and the editorial pose! So cute!

YOU ARE SO CUTE I CAN"T STAND IT!

    *pinching those cheeks*

Fabulous Nicole! I like mixing those types of browns with black more than chocolate browns myself, those "natural leather" type shades. I will hold you to your pledge, missy, because this looks awesome :D

Fabbity fab! Lov your outfit - and especially love the nails close up.

  • MNsara replied 12 years ago

Yay! The new shearling makes a brilliant debut!

That is one dynamite shade of brown to pair with black, and your hair color is a perfect match ;-)

It's that scarf and your fingerless gloves letting the blue polish peek out that elevates this to incredibly fab!!

You are such a natural at posing too :-)
